CLIMATE ADAPTATION WITH COOLING TEXTILES

At pervormance international, we believe that effective cooling and climate control should use as little energy and as few resources as possible. As temperatures rise, so does the need for cooling. This makes solutions that provide targeted cooling while keeping energy demand in mind all the more important. That’s why we are taking a different approach.

Thinking ahead and acting responsibly – with environmental and social considerations in mind – is an integral part of everything we do.

This commitment is reflected in our involvement with initiatives and organisations including the UN Global Compact, the Senate of Economy, the Partnership for Sustainable Textiles and the Alliance for Development and Climate. Our products and production processes also show significant potential when it comes to CO₂ emissions. In an application scenario assessed by ClimatePartner, the use of COOLINE SX3 cooling textiles was found to offer a CO₂ reduction potential of up to 97% compared with the conventional air-conditioning scenario assessed. We also work to reduce our footprint through measures such as using renewable electricity, upcycling waste fibres and keeping production routes short.

Since 2013, we have been measuring the CO₂ emissions associated with our company and our products and supporting climate action projects. Our Sustainability Report provides transparent information about the measures we take, the progress we are making and the goals we are working towards.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS AS A ROLE MODEL

At pervormance international, we focus on innovative cooling technologies designed to use as little energy and as few resources as possible. This approach has already received several awards, including the Climate Protection Award from the Senate of Economy, HNU’s Brand Manager Award in the Ecology category, and the German Sustainability Award 2025.

But our commitment goes beyond climate action.

Other objectives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are equally important to us. That’s why our technology is manufactured in Germany. We also source many of our fabrics and other materials from Germany and Europe to keep transport distances as short as possible.

We manufacture in accordance with the ISO 14001:2015 environmental management standard, use unisex designs for many of our products, and deliberately avoid frequent collection changes. In this way, we aim to conserve resources and reduce waste. At the same time, we are committed to responsible working conditions and compliance with our environmental standards.

Through these and many other measures, as well as the environmental and climate action projects we have supported to date in Zambezi, Sofala, Papua New Guinea and Pará, Brazil, we contribute to 13 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Responsible business practices and the careful use of resources are firmly embedded in our company. In recognition of this commitment, WirtschaftsWoche presented us with the SIA Award in the “SME EnterPrize” category. Supported by GENERALI, the award recognises companies with up to 250 employees that integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their business practices.

Here are some of the reasons why we received the award – and what we are doing to make a difference:

1. UP TO 97% LOWER CO₂ EMISSIONS COMPARED WITH CONVENTIONAL AIR CONDITIONING*

Our technology, manufactured in Germany, provides targeted cooling directly to the body, with a cooling capacity of up to 660 watts. According to an analysis by ClimatePartner, the use of our cooling technology in the application scenario assessed can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 97% compared with the conventional air-conditioning solution assessed.*

2. RESPONSIBILITY FOR PEOPLE AND THE ENVIRONMENT

PERVORMANCE is committed to fair working conditions and women’s rights and is a member of the UN Global Compact and the Senate of Economy. Our products are manufactured regionally in Germany and Europe, and the raw materials we use are sourced exclusively from Europe and are OEKO-TEX® certified. Our collections are made from 90% recycled fibres, avoid air freight in production, and are manufactured using renewable energy.

THE UN GLOBAL COMPACT

Back in 2013, we participated in the Leaders Summit in New York and subsequently intensified our efforts to promote responsible business practices. Since then, our Sustainability Report has also provided information on our values and activities in the areas of human rights, labour standards, environmental protection and anti-corruption.

As numerous publications have documented, human rights challenges remain a significant issue in the textile industry, with conditions in many areas still falling short of acceptable standards. In particular, risks relating to child labour, forced labour, insufficient employee participation and non-compliance with labour standards cannot be ruled out entirely.

For this reason, despite the intense price pressure within the textile industry and the higher cost of manufacturing in Europe, we have consciously chosen not to relocate our production to the Far East. We have known our German and European suppliers personally for many years. Short supply chains and close, long-standing partnerships help us gain greater transparency into working conditions and compliance with our standards.

As we develop, manufacture and distribute cooling textiles for people working in warm and hot environments, we can also support companies around the world in providing targeted, preventive cooling for employees working at temperatures of 26°C and above, helping to reduce heat-related strain.

“ARCHITECTS OF A BETTER WORLD”

It is important to us not only to protect people against heat stress, but also to secure our future sustainably, to protect human rights and to protect the environment.

This starts in our company also through an open corporate culture and communication policy, flat hierarchies as well as measures for environmental protection and the advancement of women, as this is also an important topic especially in the textile sector.

That is why we support the Women`s Empowerment Principles of the UN, because we believe that we women can make the world a little better. In 2020, we were recognized for our commitment by UN Women and were the only company in Germany to be shown in their brochure and profiles.

OUR COMMITMENT IN THE SENATE OF ECONOMY

In 2011, we were appointed to the Senate of the Economy on the basis of our innovations.

The Senate brings together leading figures from business, academia and culture who are committed to serving the common good.

Its mission is to promote fair and responsible business practices that contribute to the common good, as well as an eco-social market economy. The Senate maintains an active dialogue with political decision-makers, with experienced experts providing knowledge and advice to support informed decision-making.

In this way, the Senate aims to contribute practical business experience and academic expertise to the political dialogue.

Gabriele Renner contributes her expertise to the Senate as Chair of its Sustainability Commission.

PERVORMANCE SUPPORTS PLANT-FOR-THE-PLANET

The international initiative is committed to protecting and restoring forest ecosystems and empowers children and young people to take action for climate justice. Through the Plant-for-the-Planet Academies, more than 100,000 children and young people from 76 countries have already been trained as Climate Justice Ambassadors. In addition, the initiative supports forest restoration and conservation projects around the world.

Forests play an important role in climate protection: they absorb CO₂ from the atmosphere, store carbon and provide habitats for numerous species. Protecting and restoring forests is an important part of the solution, complementing the essential reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Together with the children of Plant-for-the-Planet, HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and many others, we are therefore planting trees. In cooperation with unw, we also founded the Ulm pflanzt Bäume initiative: ulm-pflanzt-bäume.de

Ulm plants trees

Together with Plant-for-the-Planet, unw, Trivis, Volksbank Ulm, Ulm’s basketball team and the City of Ulm, we launched a climate initiative.

It all began in 2007 with a school presentation by Felix Finkbeiner, who was just nine years old at the time. This led to the founding of Plant-for-the-Planet. Today, the international initiative is committed to climate justice, empowers children and young people, and works to protect and restore forest ecosystems. Plant-for-the-Planet also supports ecosystem restoration projects through research, consulting and digital tools, among other activities.

In recognition of his commitment, Felix Finkbeiner was awarded the Medal of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2018. Prince Albert II of Monaco serves as patron of the initiative, which is also supported by numerous scientists, including Prof. Dr. Dr. Radermacher from Ulm.

What does Ulm have to do with it?

The past few years have been the warmest since weather records began. While warmer weather in Ulm may put us in a good mood with days at the outdoor pool and summer barbecues, the global picture is unfortunately far less positive.

Climate change is heating up our atmosphere. And if we do not succeed in achieving our climate goals together, the world our children and grandchildren inherit will no longer be the one we once knew. Not even a great barbecue can make up for that.

The good news is: we can have both! While policymakers have managed to agree on a minimum level of action, international differences have so far prevented more ambitious progress. That means it is up to all of us to help make the difference. So join us and support Felix, the children and all of us in keeping our planet a place worth living in. It’s easy to get involved.

What everyone can do

According to the German Environment Agency, the average greenhouse gas footprint per person in Germany is around 10.3 tonnes of CO₂ equivalents per year. Your personal footprint depends on a number of factors, including how you live, travel, eat and consume.

Want to take action yourself? Start by avoiding greenhouse gas emissions wherever possible and reducing them step by step. In addition, you can support projects that protect and restore forests. Plant-for-the-Planet is involved in this work, including on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula.

Companies can take action, too. The first step is to assess emissions from areas such as energy consumption, mobility, production and transport. This helps identify where emissions can be reduced effectively. In addition, companies can support climate action and ecosystem restoration projects.

Don’t talk, act!
This is the motto of the children of
Plant-for-the-Planet. join in and plant trees too!!!
